"Care to explain this then?"

"Looks like a cheap crappy Japanese toy."

A flash came from it as if it were a camera.

"Old film has given way since end of the first decade of the 21st century. It also functions as a phone, mailing device, Dictaphone, music player, and can access another modern innovation, the internet. A lot has happened with computers since the 50’s… in just the last 10 just about everyone has a computer and can access this electronic network."

The silverette turns it around and shows a photo of her in better quality than a 9mm Kodak.

"That’s impossible. It’s just a flashy light. You can’t use a camera like that in the necessary miniaturization, and you definitely can’t make a computer that small. Our computers are 3 tons, Iowa."

"I passed through it on the way back from Turkey, why?"

"W-Well welcome to the future Mo… We’re in Yokohama, Japan… 2018."

Missouri looked at Iowa funny. “Har har, Iowa. This isn’t The Time Machine. It’s still good old 1950.”

[Text]: How much blood should there be when you slice your thumb open? (23)

Missouri bent down as best as she could to try to shake Mullinix awake. “Come on… you need to clean up all the blood.”

image

"Ngh…" She groans, her eyes fluttering open. "Am I dead…?"

"No, you’re in need of cleaning up all the blood."

An unfamiliar ship-girl walked up to the wheelchair-bound Missouri, pausing to look her over with a mildly concerned expression. She towered over the battleship to an almost absurd degree, on account of Mo being in a sitting position, and the newcomer being the same height as Akula. When she spoke, her voice had a mild Russian accent. "So. You are the 'Mighty Mo'. My sympathies for your recent troubles. My sister has told me much about you. I desired to see the American who so impressed her."

At first, one thought ran through Missouri’s mind when she saw the massive woman: boobs. When the other ship mentioned Akula, though, Missouri blinked in confusion. “… Sister? But I thought Akula was the last Typhoon-class in existance…”

"My various crews are the reason why I still hang on to faith in humanity as a whole. You were born into the Cold War, but I saw it from beginning to end. I was in Korea. Most pointless waste of human life that I’ve ever seen, honestly, and I was attacked by a kamikaze for comparison. Still, the main problem is that a lot of the bad eggs get into positions of power, which makes everything worse. I don’t know… I would lay down my life in an instant for those that I care about, and I’m willing to do very unpleasant things to keep them safe, but I’d rather be holding the trigger than selling the gun to a madman."

image

"…In the end, it is a moot point. Akula will never agree to sell any of her missiles. She is too good a person for that. So much better than I could ever be. I love her so much. She is too good for this world. It hurts her over and over again, but all she ever responds with is a smile and a laugh. Missouri…do you hate me? Do you think I am a monster? For caring only about my sister? For some reason…I truly do not wish for you to think such things of me…"

"No, but I do think you’re a sociopath. Granted, Kay is a cannibal, but still."

Took a bit of a beating…

"On railgun I do, but if you ask for temporary exoskeleton to help you walk I would suggest you would be better off waiting. your body heal a bit while you wait I suggest staying in wheel chair for first week and then trying to walk short distances. Of course you are on maternity and now medical leave. I would need time to perfect a set of legs to help you walk… it would be simpler to modify wheel chair to be motorized for more independence… that can be done in no more than two days compared to months of working on program for legs to work on various conditions."

image

"No, actually. It’s for a different project from an exoskeleton. It’s a little bit… bigger. I’m working on something new in my machine shops. It’s a little bit of insurance, just in case. And I’m actually better off with the wheels being manual. I have a lot of upper arm strength, Isaak."

image

"That is true, especially with you. I will look into that in spare time… but I am quite busy after all as head of engineering department here on base."

"Of course. That’s why I’m just asking for the data you already have."

"I’m worth in modern money… around $1.7 billion dollars altogether, and my kids would probably be more. Still, you’re advocating increasing nuclear terrorism just to make a quick buck! I may hate the admiralty, but most humans are decent enough that I wouldn’t wish atomic holocaust on them! I have six nukes myself, but I sure as hell wouldn’t sell them to the kind of third-world despot I used to fight. The only difference between you and me is that I still have ethics. If you sell any nuclear warheads, I will hunt you down to the ends of the Earth and rip out your reactor to replace my boilers.”

Angel looked down at the broken battleship, her face unreadable.

image

"…I think bigger difference between us, Missouri, is our opinion of humanity. As you said, you believe they are mostly good, with a few bad eggs which drag them down. I believe the precise opposite. Perhaps it is because we come from different eras. It is difficult being a product of the Cold War and maintaining optimism. I…suppose it goes to show how truly worthless I am, compared to my sister. Perhaps that is why I was scrapped. We all fell so far short of her…she is…my everything, do you understand? All I want is for her to be happy, to be safe. For her to have the life she deserves. All I care about is her. I’d lay down my life for her in an instant…and the lives of a million others, as well. Does this…make me a bad person? I truly wish to know. There are parts of me that can still feel empathy…but they do not seem to trigger when most do. That is the issue, I think. I feel no empathy for humans. They treated me as trash, and now no matter how hard I try, I cannot help but think of them as the same. As trash. Perhaps when Akula returns to the Motherland, I will begin attending the reunions of my former crew. If I could find empathy for any human beings on this planet, it would be them…"
